The sides and sauces were a 5, the meat was a 3. We had pulled pork, sliced brisket, and pulled chicken. The chicken was very dry, the pork was lacking in flavor even in the crust. The brisket was the best of the 3 meats but the tip and flat were cut in the same direction so that makes the tip pieces a bit chewy. The potato salad, pit beans, and Mac n cheese were all really good as was the spicy, sweet, and vinegar sauces. I would return it on mother day of the week to see if the meat is any better.
Delicious BBQ, the brisket is moist, flavorful with a perfect small ribbon of edge fat. So so so good! The fried okra side was large, perfectly fried in a slightly thick breading. that held up against the ocean. The cole slaw was iffy, with minimal flavor. A great spot right off the interstate worthy of a visit. Pricing is reasonable and service is friendly.
This was a nice spot right off the highway. The portions were generous and the staff was friendly. I heard the cashier calling the cook dad when I was ordering so this looks like a family run business I ordered the pulled pork platter with greens and a side salad. It came with a Ho pie I think is what they called it..which essentially to me was a pancake. The pork was tasty. There was various sauces on the table. The greens and salad were pretty good. The bathrooms were clean and it's in the bathroom I figured out the reason for the name..there's some music posters and records up. Then I noticed the decor was a pig spinning records.
This is a decent little restaurant with lots of options. I got a 2 meat combo which comes with 2 sides and a ho cake. I also purchased a drink. It was $16 for my lunch! I won't be getting sides from now on if I go back. I had the beans and fries. The fries were bland and their ketchup was watery. The beans were ok if you like a bunch of stuff in them but I'm not a fan of them. I got brisket and pulled chicken. The brisket was super tender and had a great smoked flavor. The chicken was a little dry but also had a great smoked flavor. There's also a nice little pickle bar I would go back but only get meat. And I won't order the drink since it's like $3.
If you are looking for the best BBQ in Richmond/Berea this is the place. Dan and his wife came through with our student engagement event for 150 hungry people. Everything was fresh, hot and delicious. Thank you all so much and I personally look forward to eating at HITZ again real soon.
